To build respect as a leader, you need to continually learn. It takes learning many different skills in order to be a successful leader. Depending on the person, you must figure out what works best for your own leadership abilities.
Your team should understand your vision. Use it as a compass to guide your way through work. Make sure every employee realizes how important they are in helping the company reach its goals. It’s a fantastic way to give people direction and build up a relationship with them too.
Great leaders are inspirational and they welcome creativity. When you take risks and use creative thinking, you are more likely to succeed. Go down the path less traveled sometimes. Take chances and try new things once in a while. Your belief can assist others to create new concepts within the project.
Honesty is probably the most important leadership quality to have. Great leaders are trustworthy ones. As you begin to improve your leadership abilities, being honest and trustworthy should be a goal. When your colleagues see this in you, they’ll become even more loyal. They’ll have true respect in your leadership.
Keep one eye on the future. You must always see a long way down the road and plan with that vision in mind. Obviously, it’s impossible to totally predict the future, but this skill needs to be worked on. Keep asking yourself where you’re expecting to be in a year or so and then start planning to make it happen.
One thing you have to have when you’re a leader is some tenacity. When things go awry, your subordinates will expect you to set the tone. Regardless of the obstacles that occur, you must focus on attaining the goal successfully. Your hard work will teach the group a valuable lesson.
Good work can flow more readily in the presence of strong incentives. Salary is not enough incentive to keep people motivated. Be ready to respond with some appropriate gift or favor when the people under you exceed expectations. A good leader isn’t a cheapskate.
Set goals for everyone under you. Everybody likes to work toward accomplishing something, and good leaders find methods of helping employees to set and reach annual goals. Don’t just set them up and let them disappear over the year. Hold each person on your team accountable for his progress toward the goals and check in on them every month.
It can be helpful to you, as a team leader, or manager, to set aside time each day to examine how things are going at the office, or workplace. It’s often a good idea to ask a few members of your team to participate in these daily evaluations. Suggestions should be welcomed and discussed.

Mean everything you say. Accountability is a major component of top leadership. You are acting as the heart of your company; everything you do will reflect on the business.
